James A. Michener was an American author of more than 40 books, most of which were fictional historical novels covering a wide range of topics and time periods. His works include such bestsellers as Tales of the South Pacific, Hawaii, and Chesapeake. He was also a Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and conservationist.
