John August is an American screenwriter, director, producer, and novelist best known for his work on big-screen films, especially his frequent collaborations with director Tim Burton. Born on August 4, 1970, in Boulder, Colorado, August has contributed to the screenplays of movies such as "Go" (1999), "Big Fish" (2003), "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (2005), and "Frankenweenie" (2012). He has also worked on the scripts of several other films and has ventured into television as well.
In addition to his work in film and TV, John August is the co-host, along with Craig Mazin, of the popular screenwriting podcast "Scriptnotes," where they discuss the craft and business of screenwriting. Additionally, he has developed writing apps and software tailored for screenwriters, such as Highland. He also wrote a middle-grade fantasy series, "Arlo Finch," which further showcases his range as a storyteller.
