Marshall Berman

Marshall Berman (1940-2013) was an American philosopher and Marxist humanist writer. He was notable for his work on modernity, urban experience, and the intersection of culture and politics. Berman was a professor at the City College of New York and the CUNY Graduate Center, and he wrote several influential books. His most famous work, "All That Is Solid Melts into Air: The Experience of Modernity" (1982), offers a lyrical and impassioned exploration of modernist thought and the paradoxical nature of modern life. Berman's writings are characterized by an accessible style and an optimistic belief in the potential for progress within modern society.
