V. V. Ganeshananthan is a contemporary American author and journalist of Sri Lankan Tamil descent. She is best known for her 2023 novel, Brotherless Night, which centers around a young girl's mission to become a doctor during the Sri Lankan Civil War, even as the conflict complicates her relationships with her family, friends, and community. This historical fiction work won the Carol Shields Prize for Fiction as well as the Women's Prize in 2024.
