What is hope, really? Do we need it? How do we get it? In 1 Thessalonians 5.8, St. Paul describes hope as a helmet. It protects our heads. Our minds. The “helmet of hope” makes us fearless, since we know regardless of the battle waging all around us, God’s Spirit is protecting us and leading us to a better future. Hope is not merely the anticipation of eternal life, but the anticipation of life on earth as it is in heaven, comprised of prosperity, abundance, and delight.
